Ethical democracy

Ethical democracy

The life of an Ethical Democracy citizen is a constant struggle between the need to act honorably and an awareness of social consequences.

Judicial independence is safeguarded because it is essential for the functioning of a society in which the people determine their own decisions through dialogue and self-government without regard to prescription from others.

In media and civic organizations, ethical standards are upheld because they serve society's interest in increasing deliberative capacity among its members – thus contributing to social cohesion and stability.

What is check and balance in the democracy?

The checks and balances system was designed to prevent major political changes by balancing out differences in power. Checks and balances, principle of government under which separate branches are empowered to prevent actions by other branches and are induced to share power.

Democracies have developed systems of efficient checks and balances — elected and unelected institutions. Such a balance is critical to their success.

Democracies can be harmed if the rulers succeed in jeopardizing the other pillars like the judiciary and free press.

The checks and balances system ensures that power does not become too concentrated in any one place or person.

Way Forward

In a modern society, democratic decisions must be made by balancing many competing considerations and interests, especially when it comes to controlling public monies. Constitutional democracy requires that the people exercise their right to vote on issues concerning the common good. This includes criticizing public institutions when necessary and calling for changes when they are deemed inadequate.

All political parties have some kind of ethical rules. What are these rules? Some rules are universal. For example, we all agree that judges should not participate in politics or act as judges if they have personal profit from doing so. We also agree that media outlets should not take action against media outlets that break laws or express opinions that are critical of the government if these actions wouldn't be illegal anyway.
