NTPC Limited was announced as the project management consultant for the development of nearly 300 MW of solar power projects in Togo. The letter of engagement signifies the first time another country has sought help of the NTPC, under the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

About Togo

Togo is a wonderful country with an incredible culture and people. Outsiders are still mostly unaware of what lies beyond the main coastal area. It is a country in West Africa and extends south to the Gulf of Guinea and is bordered on the north by Burkina Faso, Benin to the east, and Ghana on the west.

Togo’s capital is Lomé, located in the Gulf of Guinea and is the largest city and port of the country. It is a sub-Saharan nation, with a good growing climate that supports its dependence on agriculture. The economy rests largely on agricultural products such as coffee, cocoa beans, and peanuts (groundnuts).

Cultural relations between India and Togo

Cultural relations between India and Togo have existed for centuries. Those relations can be best traced back to the millions of Indians who have emigrated from India to Africa during the past 100 years. Indian citizen Chander Verma, Togo's former honorary consul in India, was awarded the Officre de Order de Mono, Togo's highest civilian honor given to individuals who show extraordinary merit, by President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe in June 2011.

Trade between India and Togo

India is Togo's third largest destination for exports. The main commodities exported by India to Togo are mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation, cereals and preparation of cereals cotton, articles of apparel and clothing, iron and steel articles, man-made filaments, man-made staple fibers, drugs and pharmaceuticals, machinery and mechanical appliances, plastic and plastic articles, rubber and rubber articles, vehicles, and vehicle parts and accessories.

Foreign aid between India and Togo

India has provided assistance to Togo by providing the country with tractors, water pumps, sewing machines, ambulances, transport vehicles and corn-grinding machines. India provided Togo with a grant of ₹10 crore in September 1994 to establish an agricultural project. At the request of the Togolese Government, India supplied the country with indelible ink for use in elections in 2002.
