Unified Portal of Gobardhan

Unified Portal of Gobardhan

Recently, a Unified Portal of Gobardhan has been launched to ensure smooth implementation of Biogas schemes/initiatives and their real-time tracking. It will also be helpful for common people to track the status of their state-wise or panchayat-wise Biogas Schemes. This will ensure transparency in the implementation of the scheme and motivate the people towards Biogas adoption.

Benefits of the Portal:

Economy: Gobardhan Biogas Project is an initiative for creating a sustainable rural economy in India through the development of self-sustaining biogas-based decentralized sanitation systems.

ODF Plus Goals: The ODF Plus goals (solid waste management in villages, along with the collection and transportation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste) outlined in the Phase 2 of SBMG will depend on the performance of Gobardhan scheme to a great extent.

Synchronisation with other Schemes: The Unified Portal of Gobardhan is a robust web interface that is being utilized for the effective implementation of the project. It helps in ensuring transparency and easy connectivity, and synchronisation with other Schemes for seamless GRM (Green Rooth Mission) operation. It could be further improved to provide effective monitoring and reporting to local administration at the District level.

Better Environment & Public Health: Rural areas in India are highly populated. The insufficient number of toilets leads to the accumulation of bio-waste, which has a deteriorating impact on the environment and public health of these regions. The rural areas are also where bio-waste is mostly generated, yet there exist no facilities to treat such waste.

Employment Generation & Savings: Using cattle dung as a source of energy is a strong pointer to the culture and civilization in India. Bio-waste management such as treatment of cattle dung for generation of biogas with organic manures will make us self-reliant on eco-friendly green energy, in comparison to nonrenewable energy sources like petroleum-based fossil fuel. Bio-waste processing especially cattle dung into Biogas & organic manure leads to generation of opportunities for employment and household savings.

About GOBAR-DHAN Scheme

Launched in 2018, the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme is implemented under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin-Phase 2, by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Jal Shakti ministry.

The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) comprises two main components for creating clean villages – creating open defecation free (ODF) villages and managing solid and liquid waste in villages.

The scheme also aims at creating new rural livelihood opportunities and enhancing income for farmers and other rural people.

Benefits of the scheme:

  • Helpful for the country as India is home to the highest cattle population in the world, close to 300 million in number, with a daily output of 3 million tonnes of dung.
  • Encourage farmers to consider dung and other waste not just as a waste but as a source of income.
  • Benefits to the rural people. It will be easier to keep the village clean and sanitized, livestock health will improve and farm yields will increase.
  • Increase self-reliance in energy utilized for cooking and lighting.
  • Provides a stable fuel supply in the market for oil companies and accessible credit in the market through government schemes and banks for entrepreneurs.
