India at the UN – challenges and significance

The role of India in the UN system is huge and ever-increasing. For decades, India supported the ideals of universal human rights and worked hard to build up a strong economy and market economy despite hardships and hardships. India has participated actively in meetings and committees of the UN since its inception. In the past few years, India has made a strong push for even greater participation and betterment of the UN system through comprehensive reforms in its work, including on major budgetary issues like peacekeeping budgets.

About United Nations (UN)

The United Nations (UN) is the most powerful International Organisation that ever existed in the history of mankind. 193 members of the UN have participated and contributed their part to make the UN a truly global organization. The powers vested in the UN Charter facilitate the United Nations to take action on a variety of global issues such as peace, security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, global governance, food production, etc.

There are Six major organs of UN which are are

2. The UN Security Council (UNSC)
3. Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC)
4. International Court of Justice (ICJ)
5. UN Secretariat
6. Trusteeship Council

India and UN

• India as a country and a member have participated and contributed significantly to the United Nations. India amidst all its facets has led from the front throughout its history. Its contribution towards the development of world peace and harmony through its foreign policy has been immense and meritorious.
• India's role in the United Nations is vital due to our overwhelming size. As a world power, India has great significance in the functioning of the United Nations and deserves recognition for its developmental initiatives and aspirations for justice.
• India at the UN is a collective of people belonging to all walks of life including civil society, amateurs, professionals and researchers who run campaigns from campuses to buildings. Issues like rights of ecology and environment, women's empowerment, rights of ethnic minorities, regional peace and security remain alive and well for the UN members who hail from different parts of the country. The relevance and relevance of India at the UN is such that it can be described as ‘permanent’.
• India at the United Nations has manifested many challenges, but its importance cannot be underestimated. India's unique contribution lies in the fact that it has stood as a bridge between East and West, and helped bring about a dialogue between the two cultures on issues that divide them - in particular, between East and West on Anti-Apartheid; between East and South on Resolving the Issues Connected with the Name of Jammu & Kashmir; between Hindus and Muslims on Ending the Pandemic.
