SSC CGL Syllabus 2023

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC CGL Exam to recruit candidates for various posts, and it is essential for aspirants to gather all the necessary information about the exam, including the syllabus and exam pattern. The SSC CGL syllabus outlines the subjects and topics from which questions will be asked in the exam. It covers four sections, namely General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Candidates should be well-versed in each of these sections and prepare for all the tiers of the exam to increase their chances of success.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as indicated below:

  • Tier -I -- Computer Based (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -II -- Computer Based (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -III -- Descriptive Paper in English / Hindi ( Pen and paper mode)
  • Tier-IV-- Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (Wherever Applicable )

Final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks in Tier-I, Tier-II & Tier-III.

SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2 Exam Syllabus:

Module-I of Section-II of Paper-I (English Language And Comprehension):

In the SSC CGL Tier-2 Exam, fluency in the English Language is evaluated through a specific section of the syllabus. To perform well in this section, candidates must possess a fundamental understanding of English, including the topics listed in the syllabus. The reading comprehension portion of the syllabus is included to assess the candidates' ability to react quickly to situations, and the topics are not specified..

Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus- Paper 2 (Statistics)

For some candidate, this section might be tough & difficult to understand. The basic tip is to get the concept clear and repetitive revision of the concepts would be beneficial to grab good marks in this section too. The SSC CGL Tier-2 Syllabus for Statistics is described as follows-

6. Probability Theory

Meaning of probability; Different definitions of probability; Conditional probability; Compound probability; Independent events; Bayes‟ theorem.

7. Random Variable and Probability Distributions

Random variable; Probability functions; Expectation and Variance of a random variable; Higher moments of a random variable; Binomial, Poisson, Normal and Exponential distributions; Joint distribution of two random variable (discrete).

8. Sampling Theory

Concept of population and sample; Parameter and statistic, Sampling and non-sampling errors; Probability and nonprobability sampling techniques(simple random sampling, stratified sampling, multistage sampling, multiphase sampling, cluster sampling, systematic sampling, purposive sampling, convenience sampling and quota sampling); Sampling distribution(statement only); Sample size decisions.

9. Statistical Inference

Point estimation and interval estimation, Properties of a good estimator, Methods of estimation (Moments method, Maximum likelihood method, Least squares method), Testing of hypothesis, Basic concept of testing, Small sample and large sample tests, Tests based on Z, t, Chi-square and F statistic, Confidence intervals.

Analysis of one-way classified data and two-way classified data.

11. Time Series Analysis

Components of time series, Determination of trend component by different methods, Measurement of seasonal variation by different methods.

12. Index Numbers

Meaning of Index Numbers, Problems in the construction of index numbers, Types of index number, Different formulae, Base shifting and splicing of index numbers, Cost of living Index Numbers, Uses of Index Numbers.

 

SSC CGL Tier 2 Syllabus: Paper 3 (General Studies-Finance and Economics)

Paper 3 of tier 2 exam is not conducted for all the candidates who have applied for CGL exam, but for only those who have applied for the Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer post.100 questions will be asked in this exam which will be of 200 marks. This paper tests the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of financial and economic concepts, principles, and theories.
