To serve the public and honor outstanding contributions across various fields, the Government of Assam is introducing the Assam Civilian Awards, modeled after the Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, which are the highest civilian honors in India.
The awards include:
1. Assam Baibhav
2. Assam Saurav
3. Assam Gaurav
It would be on the similar patterns of Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, the higest Civilian Awards of the Government of India.
Generally, the number of Awards to be given every year for the Assam Baibhav-1, Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav are 1, 3 and 15 respectively. However, the number of awards may vary every year in each category as per the decision of the Award Committee.
The awardees will be provided with the following:
- Assam Bhaibhav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 5 lakh.
- Assam Saurav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 4 lakh.
- Assam Gourav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 3 lakh.
All the above awardees will also be offered the following facilities:
• Free medical treatment in government hospitals, including stays in paying cabins when possible.
• Free lodging at State Government Circuit Houses, Guest Houses, and Assam Bhawans.
• They will be invited as distinguished guests to all official functions.
• The Government of Assam will cover up to Rs. 2 lakh for medical expenses related to critical illnesses.
• In addition to the award money and other benefits, awardees can also travel for free on ASTC buses, as long as they provide a 24-hour notice before their journey.
