
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a new moon mission ‘Chandrayaan-4’, to develop and demonstrate the technologies to come back to Earth after successfully landing on the Moon and also collect moon samples and analyze them on Earth.
About Mission
- Chandrayaan-4 mission will achieve the foundational technologies capabilities eventually foran Indian landing on the moon(planned by year 2040) andreturn safely back to Earth.
- Major technologies that arerequired for docking/undocking, landing, safe return to earthandalso accomplish lunar sample collectionand analysis would be demonstrated.
Vision
The Government of India has outlined an expandedvision for the Indian space programme during the Amrit Kaalthat envisagesan Indian Space Station (Bharatiya Antriksh Station) by 2035andIndian Landing on the Moon by 2040.
