The four main pilgrimage sites in Buddhism are Lumbini (birth), Bodh Gaya (enlightenment), Sarnath (first sermon) and Kushinagar (parinirvana). There are also many important sites that are associated with the life of the Buddha, including Sravasti, where he spent a great deal of time in monastic life, and Sankasya, where it is believed that he descended from heaven.
