This initiative is a crucial part of the ambitious Rs 10,300 crore IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to cultivate homegrown AI capabilities and lessen reliance on international models.

• This initiative is a key component of the India AI Mission, with eight companies chosen to develop large language models.
• Among these are Tech Mahindra, Fractal Analytics, and the IIT Bombay-led consortium, BharatGen.
• The government has allocated 988.6 crore rupees to the IIT Bombay consortium.
• They are tasked with creating a Large Language Model boasting 1 trillion parameters.
• The India AI Mission is focused on fostering self-sufficient AI technologies.
