Neeraj Chopra Wins First Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has had a fantastic debut at the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, which was held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru. The event took place yesterday evening and is part of the World Athletics Gold level series. Neeraj won the event with a throw of 86.18 metres, extending his excellent international javelin throwing form.

Neeraj Chopra Steals the Show

Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic and World Champion in javelin, showed once again why he is one of the best throwers in the world. As a homecoming moment he (literally) brought the best side of himself and won with a throw of 86.18 metres on his third attempt, which brought the roof down on Sree Kanteerava Stadium Bengaluru.

Neeraj commenced his event with a solid second throw of 82.99. The third throw won the event. Neeraj, made a foul throw with his fourth attempt, then came back to throw 84.07 and made a solid performance with his final throw of 82.22.

Others on the Podium

Kenya’s Julius Yego who was a former world champion and teammate gave it a solid fight and secured second place with his season’s best of 84.51 metres,while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage finished third with 84.34 metres.

Julius Yego was in contention with their best throws yet finished apart from Neeraj’s best throws.

The Neeraj Chopra Classic is a brand new athletics event named after the javelin star himself. It’s part of the World Athletics Gold level series, meaning it is one of the highest level events in athletics available worldwide and importantly, to host this in India is a significant step in promoting athletics in the country.

Not only does the event honour Neeraj’s legacy, but it allowed fans in India to see world class athletes compete at a very high level.
