On September 24, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 49th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) at South Block. During this meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed eight major infrastructure projects that span across 15 States and Union Territories, with a total investment surpassing ₹65,000 crore. The Prime Minister focused on key sectors such as Mines, Railways, Water Resources, Industrial Corridors, and Power. Recognizing these initiatives as crucial for driving economic growth and enhancing public welfare, the discussion emphasized the importance of setting clear timelines, fostering effective coordination among agencies, and swiftly addressing any obstacles that might arise.
Prime Minister reiterated that delays in execution impose a double cost – often escalating project expenditure and also depriving citizens of timely access to essential services and infrastructure. He urged officials at both the Central and State levels to adopt a result-oriented approach, translating opportunities into improved quality of life for people, while also advancing the goals of ease of living for citizens and ease of doing business for enterprises.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of States and Union Territories setting up their own systems for regularly reviewing and monitoring flagship projects. This is crucial for ensuring that these projects are implemented on time and that any obstacles are effectively addressed. He encouraged all States and UTs to focus on reforms that boost competitiveness, enhance efficiency, and promote innovation across various sectors. He emphasized that being better prepared through these reforms would allow us to quickly take advantage of new opportunities.
PRAGATI, an ICT-enabled multi-modal platform, serves as a bridge between the Centre and States to fast-track major projects and ensure time-bound delivery.
