The Sengol is a beautifully crafted gold-plated silver sceptre that has been installed in the New Parliament House in New Delhi, India. This sceptre was first handed to Jawaharlal Nehru, the inaugural Prime Minister of India, by a Tamil Adheenam during a ceremony that marked the Transfer of Power on the night before India gained its Independence in 1947. For a long stretch of seventy years, the Sengol was displayed at the Allahabad Museum, known as ‘Nehru’s Golden Walking Stick,’ until it was relocated to its current spot during the building’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.
