FIFA World Cup 2022 concludes: Argentina beats France on penalties

FIFA World Cup 2022: At the Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar, Messi’s Argentina won their 3rd World Cup trophy in six final appearances in history by defeating France 4-2 on penalties (after a score of 3-3 after extra time). It had won two in 1978 and 1986 under Diego Maradona. Lionel Messi had come close to winning in 2014 but La Albiceleste lost the final 0-1 to Germany. The sole connection to Messi’s Qatari campaign in 2014 was his Golden Ball award as Tournament Player of the Year. He became the first player to take home two Golden Balls at the World Cup.
