Daily Current Affairs Article 4th January 2021: A bird flu warning has been sounded in Rajasthan after the confirmation of its virus in dead crows in Jhalawar district. Animal Husbandry Department has set up a state-level control room and sent its teams to the district for effective monitoring.
Bird flu, also called avian influenza, is a viral infection that can infect not only birds, but also humans and other animals. Most forms of the virus are restricted to birds. H5N1 is the most common form of bird flu.

This type of flu is most often contracted by contact with sick birds. It can also be passed from person to person.
Symptoms begin within two to eight days and can seem like the common flu. Cough, fever, sore throat, muscle aches, headache and shortness of breath may occur.
The disease can carry a high mortality in humans. Some antiviral drugs, if taken within two days of symptoms, may help.
